Why Nigerian youths are not working youth unemployment in Nigeria—including Lagos—is driven by several factors:

A mismatch between the skills employer's need and the skills many youths have.

Rapid population growth that creates more job seekers than available jobs.

Structural issues such as poor economic conditions and limited job creation mechanisms.

Lagos is trying to address this through programs like the Lagos state employability support project, which has trained thousands of youths and connected many to employers. The newest phase aims to train 2,000 more young Nigeria in high‑demand fields like digital skills, renewable energy, and manufacturing.
