Lagos is still experiencing electricity shortages mainly because the state depends heavily on the national grid, which has been supplying less power than needed. Distribution companies like Ikeja Electric have said that many outages are caused by reduced power allocation from the national grid, forcing them to ration electricity across different areas.
At the same time, the Lagos state government has been signing new power purchase agreements to increase local generation from about 60MW to as much as 400MW over the next two to three years. These agreements are meant to reduce blackouts by producing more power within Lagos instead of relying mostly on the national grid.
