The current governor of Lagos State is Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, who has been in office since May 29, 2019.

Recent reporting shows that he is not the one running for re‑election in 2027. Instead, multiple credible sources indicate that:

Obafemi Hamzat, the current deputy governor, is being positioned as the APC’s preferred candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.

Sanwo‑Olu has publicly endorsed Hamzat as the next governor.

Key political figures, including the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, have also stated that Hamzat is the “next governor” and APC flagbearer for 2027.
