Ethiopian long-distance runner and reigning champion Tigst Assefa has done it again, breaking her own women‑only world record and setting a new one of 02:15:41 after an unforgettable elite women’s race.
She won the Berlin Marathon in 2022 and 2023, and secured victories in the London Marathon in 2025 and now 2026.
Speaking earlier in the week at the press conference, Assefa hinted that something special was coming. Indeed, she delivered:
“I’ve done a lot of endurance training and I’ve done a lot of speed training. Over the last three weeks I’ve been focusing more on the speed side of my preparation.”
