Nigeria, however, has relied on oil for decades, which creates very few jobs.

So even when oil companies profit, the average Nigerian doesn’t feel it. Corruption and mismanagement weaken the link between oil wealth and public welfare

Oil profits are supposed to fund

electricity

roads

schools

healthcare

job creation

But decades of:

corruption

misallocation

weak institutions

political patronage

have prevented oil wealth from translating into broad prosperity
