Consider a simple scenario: a company official responsible for approving a contract demands a percentage of the contract value before signing it. This unethical demand immediately eats into the contractor’s profit margin. To stay afloat, the contractor is then forced to cut costs—often by reducing workers’ wages or compromising on quality.
