Lawal Basil Agusto (1885-1971), widely believed to be the first Muslim Nigerian lawyer. He was educated in London and after completing his studies, he returned to Nigeria in 1924. He successfully practiced as a lawyer in Lagos. He was made a Queen’s Counsel(Q.C) in 1959. He later moved on to found the Islamic Society of Nigeria (Jama'at Ul-Islamiyya) and was it’s first President.
