Nigeria has no state‑wide free electricity program.

What the government offers is free electricity meters, not free power supply. These meters are being distributed nationwide under the DISREP program, but citizens still pay for electricity consumption.

The Nigerian electricity regulatory commission NERC also clarified that only meters funded by the government are free — not the electricity itself.
