Poverty levels have risen sharply
The World Bank reports that over 60% of Nigerians now live below the poverty line, up from about 40% a few years ago.

By 2025, poverty had climbed to 63%, affecting roughly 140–150 million people.

This rise happened despite some improvements in macroeconomic indicators, meaning the economy looks better on paper but not in people’s lives.
