Florida authorities launched investigation into OpenAI following university shooting in which student used ChatGPT

The state prosecutor’s office initiated an inquiry into OpenAI after the incident at Florida State University (FSU) on April 17, 2025. Two people were killed.

During the investigation, authorities reviewed the shooter’s messages with ChatGPT. The conversation included discussions about self-esteem issues and emotional distress, followed by questions about firearms, mass shootings.
