Recently, Anthropic discovered "functional emotions" inside Claude Sonnet 4.5.

AI has internal representations of 171 emotion concepts — from happy to desperate. These are measurable "emotion vectors" — stable neural patterns that shape how Claude actually behaves.

❕ Important: This doesn't mean Claude has feelings. It just learned abstract emotion concepts from data, and those concepts now influence its responses — much like emotions do for humans.
