Why does it look like ECOWAS suddenly cares about Nigeria’s food waste?
Nigeria is the largest economy and population in ECOWAS
Because of its size, any major issue in Nigeria automatically becomes a regional issue.
Food waste in Nigeria affects:
regional food prices
cross‑border trade
agricultural supply chains
food security in neighboring countries
So when Nigeria loses 38 million tonnes of food, it’s not just a Nigerian problem — it ripples across West Africa.
