Poverty makes people desperate
When people are suffering, they look for hope anywhere. Some pastors take advantage of that desperation.

Lack of regulation
Anyone can start a church in Nigeria. No oversight, no standards, no accountability.

Cultural expectation
Many Nigerians believe a pastor must look blessed so pastors feel pressure to display wealth.

Prosperity gospel
This teaches that if you give money to God, God will bless you financially
