Researchers have developed generalist biological foundation models—essentially "Large Language Models" for biology—trained on massive datasets of DNA, RNA, and protein sequences. Unlike previous narrow AI (like AlphaFold), which focused on specific tasks like protein folding, these generalist models treat biological sequences as a language. By learning the "grammar" of life across different scales, these models can perform zero-shot or few-shot predictions on diverse tasks.
