1. He was born around 1831 in Imo state, his name was Mbanaso Opera Ozurumba, some said rivals of his father sold him to slavery ending up in Bonny in the Nigerian Delta.
In Bonny he was he worked under a wealthy chief called Madu. He started as a canoe paddler hulling palm oil through the creeks. He was very cleaver, he leant how the trade works, he learnt how to read people, negotiate, build trust. Over time he rose from servant to merchan.
