Beyond the Mask of Disrespect

A child says,
But Mummy, I was just trying to explain…
And before they finish, the response comes sharp:
“Keep quiet! Don’t talk back!”
That door -the one they were holding open closes.
Not with a slam.
With a silence.
Your child is not naturally disrespectful.
They are often just unskilled at being heard.
When a child tries to explain and gets shut down…
When a “why” gets labeled as talking back…
When their big emotions are corrected before they are understood…
