Ene put her fork down. “Chris, I’ve asked around. I know your reputation. They say you’re a collector of hearts.” She gestured to the religious book about chastity on the table. “I don't play games. I’m a woman of faith. I don't want to be a chapter in your book.”

“I’m not playing,” he insisted.

“Then give me a week,” she said. “I need to fast. I need to pray about this. If you’re serious, you can wait.”

“A week?” Chris groaned, though his eyes were bright.
