Why Nigeria often prefers forfeiture over prosecution
Weak legal tools for unexplained wealth:
EFCC usually has to prove a specific underlying crime (predicate offence)—like fraud, embezzlement, or bribery—before it can successfully prosecute. When they can’t clearly tie the money to a particular offence, they fall back on civil or non‑conviction-based forfeiture instead of jailing anyone.
