Why he was killed (2011)
Gaddafi was overthrown during the first Libyan civil war, after a NATO‑backed uprising.

He was captured by rebel forces in Sirte and summarily executed shortly after.

His death occurred during chaotic battlefield conditions, but evidence shows he was beaten and shot after capture.
