Suspicion about political motives
Some Black Americans worry that calls for reparations from African leaders might be:

symbolic politics

attempts to attract tourism or investment

efforts to gain international leverage

So they react with skepticism rather than enthusiasm.

Different lived experiences
Black Americans and continental Africans have different histories, even though they share ancestry.

Black Americans:

lived through slavery in America

fought Jim Crow in America
