A sense of abandonment or distance
For generations, many Black Americans have felt:

disconnected from Africa

that African nations rarely spoke up for them during segregation or civil rights

that they were treated as “foreigners” when visiting Africa

So when African leaders suddenly talk about unity or reparations, some respond:

“Where was this energy when we were fighting for our lives here?”

“Now you want us, but we’ve been alone for 400 years.”

Again, it’s not about Ghana specifically —
