After 1983: Naira begins to fall
From 1986 onward, the naira rapidly lost value due to economic reforms, oil price shocks, and structural adjustment policies.
1986: $1 = ₦2.02
1990s: $1 = ₦7–₦22
2000s onward: continuous depreciation
Nigeria had two presidents in 1983 due to a military coup: Shehu Shagari (civilian) and Muhammadu Buhari (military).
