Born Rosetta Nubin (March 20, 1915), she combined traditional gospel music with virtuoso guitar solos on her Gibson SG to create a groundbreaking sound that would have a profound influence on all the rock and roll musicians that followed.

In May 2018, Tharpe was posthumously inducted into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" as an Early Influence.
