In a court of law, remorse does not acquit the guilty. Justice requires satisfaction. Sin carries a penalty, and that penalty must be paid. The glory of the cross is that Christ did not negotiate with justice — He fulfilled it. God remains just while justifying the one who believes in Jesus.
