The main factions—JAS (Shekau’s faction) and ISWAP—operate independently and sometimes fight each other.

Even when some commanders surrendered, many returned to the battlefield after government promises allegedly went unfulfilled.

2. They Target Military Bases and Seize Weapons
Since 2025, Boko Haram and ISWAP have launched renewed, coordinated attacks on Nigerian military bases
