Kate Winslet has been cast in "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" as the female lead.

The Oscar-winning actress joins the returning Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the trilogy and will reprise the titular role along with directorial duties.

Wood and McKellen will play Frodo Baggins and Gandalf, respectively. They were last in these roles for 2003’s "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King".
