Before the British, there was no "Nigeria." There were kingdoms—Oyo, Benin, Kanem-Bornu, Sokoto Caliphate. There were nations—Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Ijaw, Tiv, over 250 others. Each with its own governance, its own cosmology, its own relationship to land and spirit.
