When Donald Trump threatens or attacks another country, some people in Nigeria’s South East react with unusual excitement, almost as if it represents redemption. Meanwhile, when Middle Eastern countries are struck by the U.S. or Israel, some in the North quickly chant against America and Israel, declaring solidarity with nations like Iran or Syria.
These reactions suggest that many Nigerians still interpret global events through ethnic and religious lenses rather than a shared national identity.
