Cultural Authority Converted to Political Capital

Traditional institutions should serve as bridges between communities and the state. But when they’re leveraged for political campaigning or governance roles:
They no longer represent community voices; they endorse political interests.
Their moral and social capital gets traded for short-term political favors.
Long-term cultural cohesion and grassroots trust are jeopardized.
And once their cultural legitimacy falls, it’s very hard to rebuild.
