If a child is fortunate enough to be born into a bilingual family, with each parent providing the wonderful gift of speaking in both of their native languages, the child will acquire two lexicons and two grammars, and their bilingual brain will retain better abilities for language processing and learning a third or fourth language.

Some bilingual children may say their first words slightly later than monolingual children, because their brains process twice as much information.
