Atiku Abubakar could have become Nigeria’s president in 2003 because many PDP governors wanted him to contest against Obasanjo in the party primaries. He refused, saying he did not want to betray his boss. Instead, he supported Obasanjo and even campaigned for him. Today, however, Obasanjo is working against the same man who once stood by him. Many people believe this bitterness comes from Atiku’s role in opposing Obasanjo’s failed third-term ambition.
