Fuel Subsidy Removal: Reform vs. Shock Therapy.

The Propaganda:
“Subsidy removal was necessary to free funds for development.”

The Reality:
Yes, subsidies were fiscally unsustainable. But removing them without strong social buffers was economic shock therapy. Transport costs spiked. Food prices followed. SMEs are bleeding.

Reform is not the problem. Sequencing and cushioning are.
