The Grand Shiite cleric of Iraq, Ali al-Sistani, announced that he would declare jihad if the United States strikes Iran.

Previously, al-Sistani issued a fatwa stating that fighting against American forces during the U.S. invasion of Iraq was forbidden.

In this context, the United States Department of State allocated $200 million to al-Sistani as a donation.
