Under China’s 2025 divorce reforms, a wife can no longer automatically claim her husband’s property after a divorce unless the asset is legally registered as joint property or she can provide clear proof of her financial contribution.

The law shifts away from the traditional 50/50 split, prioritising documented ownership and monetary input, while domestic work, such as childcare or house duties, is no longer recognised as a direct contribution to marital assets.
