When you look at the figures the government quotes for diaspora remittances, you can’t help but appreciate how much Nigerians abroad contribute to reducing poverty and improving the standard of living of their families back home. Many of them build and maintain homes across the country, often accommodating relatives for free, while also covering school fees and medical bills. In many ways, “Japa” has provided a lifeline for countless families.
