“It’s pronounced Oh-loo-wah-shey-soh-lah-me.”

“What a beautiful name! Oh-lay-wah-slah-me, how’d I do?”

I forced a grin. “Good first try.”

“Thank God you go by Amanda,” she added. “It’s easier for me, and I’m sure it will be for your teachers too.”

Her voice rods were casual, and I knew she meant no harm. But in that moment, I realized something: I was the one shrinking.
