Germany says Nigeria’s $2.3 billion Siemens-backed power deal has regained traction under President Bola Tinubu after years of slow implementation. Johannes Lehne, Germany’s deputy head of mission, said the Presidential Power Initiative, signed in 2019 to upgrade transmission capacity to 7,000MW in phase one and 11,000MW in phase two, is now moving forward. He added that Germany’s energy cooperation with Nigeria extends beyond grid upgrades to renewables and gas.
