Everyone already had their own people. No one really talked to me. I ate lunch alone and assumed it was temporary, that someone would notice I was new and start a conversation. That never happened. I didn’t have a phone yet, so while everyone else sat on theirs, I just sat there, trying to look busy. When I did try to talk to people, the reactions were awkward enough that I stopped trying for a while.
