Plans for reaching Mars may well be slowing down as new attention shifts toward building a permanent presence on the Moon first. In a recent statement, Elon Musk suggested that SpaceX could prioritize creating a self growing lunar city within the next 10 years.

The idea is that the Moon could serve as a strategic stepping stone and a place to test new technology, build infrastructure, and act as a refueling point before deeper missions to the Red Planet become realistic.
