2026 is now on track to be the deadliest year yet for African migrants crossing to Europe. Between Jan 1 and Feb 10, at least 524 people died or went missing in the Mediterranean — a higher toll than the same period in any previous year on record. Migrants continue risking their lives on dangerous sea routes, driven by desperation and broken systems. �
