Switzerland adopted the collegiate presidency system with the establishment of the Federal Council in 1848, when the Swiss Federal Constitution was enacted.
Reasons for the Choice:
Political Stability: After a period of political turmoil and civil war, a collective executive was seen as a way to ensure stability and prevent the concentration of power. Other reasons: Representation of Diversity;
Consensus-based Governance; Checks and Balances; Long-standing Tradition of collective decision.
