The issue is not only the racist image posted by Trump, but the large number of supporters who openly laughed and endorsed it.
Dehumanising people of colour has a long historical record of leading to violence and social instability.
When this behaviour is normalised or excused, it creates risk far beyond online spaces.
Racism does not exist in isolation. Its consequences are shared by everyone.
