A South Sudanese man, Thon Chol Riak, pictured below, has married his bride, Atong Aguto Monyroor, after paying an eye-watering dowry of $77,000 in cash, 297 cows, and plots of land, outbidding a rival who offered $25,000 and 158 cows.

The union was sealed in a lavish wedding ceremony following a fierce contest for the bride’s hand.
