This is not politics. This is racism.
A video shared on Donald Trump’s social media platform depicted former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes — a racist trope with a long, ugly history.
It doesn’t matter if it was “brief.”
It doesn’t matter who clicked upload.
It doesn’t matter how fast it was deleted.
Some lines should never be crossed. This was one of them.
Racism dressed up as “memes” is still racism. Normalising it, excusing it, or brushing it off is exactly how it survives.
