Researchers have developed "Coscientist," an AI system powered by Large Language Models (GPT-4) capable of autonomously designing and executing chemical reactions. By browsing technical manuals and scientific literature, the AI converted natural language prompts into executable Python code to control robotic laboratory hardware. It successfully synthesized 35 compounds, including paracetamol and aspirin, by independently managing complex tasks like heating, shaking, and liquid handling.
