NIGHT STORY
Midnight in Umuoma, the village was quiet but the moon would not sleep.
Under the udala tree, little Somto asked, “Grandma, why does the night have stars?”
Mama Nkem smiled. “Long ago, the sky was dark & people feared the night. One small girl prayed, ‘Creator, let the night also have reasons 2 smile.’ The Creator gathered bits of joy from the earth—children’s laughter, mothers’ songs, answered prayers—& threw them into the sky. Each one became a star.
