The United States has sent a military team to Nigeria as part of expanded cooperation against militant groups in West Africa, according to US Africa Command. It said the deployment followed discussions with Nigerian authorities on the need for closer coordination to address the terrorist threat in the region. The move comes weeks after US President Donald Trump ordered airstrikes on suspected Islamic State-linked targets in Nigeria and said further US military action could follow.
